Right before a “Beau is Afraid” Q&A at AMC Century City last Friday night, Joaquin Phoenix warned the audience in his intro that Ari Aster had dropped some acid in the back room.
“Thanks so much for being here. So, here’s these guys that are tripping,” Phoenix says in the video taken by an audience member.
During a Reddit AMA, Aster confirmed that Phoenix was not lying, he did in fact take acid with comedian Nathan Fielder, adding that his tolerance is “extremely high” and he didn’t feel much from it.
The drug-induced screening fits well with Aster’s last two films, both of which were trippy in their ambitions. His ‘Beau is Afraid” will be expanding wide this coming Friday.
