Mia Goth Calls MaXXXine “A Superhero Movie”

April 17, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

Production is underway on Ti West’s trilogy capper “MaXXXine,” which will complete the trifecta that started last year with “X,” and “Pearl.” Mia Goth obviously stars in this one.

In an exclusive on-set interview with GamesRadar, Goth gives us more details about what awaits her character in this latest ‘80s-set film:

"I see MaXXXine as a superhero movie – that’s how I read the script. Maxine, as a character, has come a long way. She’s a survivor, she’s gone through a lot. When we meet her again, in this new world that she’s in, she’s really fought for everything that she has, and she’s not about to give that up. She’s going to fight for what she has. She’s a badass. There’s a strength to her. And she’s a really proactive, determined, focused woman. She goes after what she wants, and she’s not really going to take no for an answer."

Goth is really hot these days. Her “Pearl” performance seems to have opened up a lot of doors for her career. Hell, I’m not one bit annoyed that she decided to join Marvel’s “Blade.” If there ever was a Marvel film that she could fit in perfectly it’s that one.

“MaXXXine” is about the ‘80s porn industry, and last week started production in Los Angeles. Joining Goth will be Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, Halsey, Giancarlo Esposito and Kevin Bacon.

Goth reprises her titular role. The film is said to take place in 1985, five years after “X,” as Goth’s Maxine sets out in Hollywood to find fame. Production is said to take around 7 weeks to complete.

It will deal with the dangerous world of underground X filmmaking. Esposito plays an agent for adult film and Z-list actresses, while Debicki is a film director. Monaghan and Canavale are LAPD detectives while Bacon is a private detective.

“MaXXXine” has no release date. If filming does indeed get completed in early June then we can maybe have some hope for a 2023 release.
