Ben Affleck Screened ‘Air’ For Paul Thomas Anderson

March 17, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

Maybe Andrea Riseborough’s team is behind the current marketing rollout for Ben Affleck’s “Air,” whoever it is, it’s working. I’m very much looking forward to watching this movie next week.

Yesterday, Barry Jenkins retweeted Affleck/THR interview, adding: “This was a fantastic read Enjoyed it ALMOST as much as I enjoyed AIR.”

A number of artists have also joined in on the “Air” chorus of approval. However, best of all, is Affleck’s admission in the THR interview that he screened his upcoming film for Paul Thomas Anderson:

I showed it to Paul [Thomas] Anderson, my favorite director of all time. He knows I really look up to him. And he was like, “This is just a fun movie. I like this movie.” And I’m thinking, “Is it a masterpiece?” Because I think he really is a genius. This guy knows how to do this. Sometimes I get a sort of a [Antonio] Salieri feeling around him. Yeah, I’m good enough to know how great you really are.

Affleck gushing like a fanboy over PTA is cute. His “Air” will have its world premiere as the closing night film of the SXSW Film Festival tomorrow evening.

The film, which stars Matt Damon, Jason Bateman and Viola Davis, will be released via Amazon’s worldwide theatrical rollout on April 5th.
