Scandal in the Korean film world. Actor Lee Sun Kyun is dead. To U.S. audiences, he’s best known for his role as the father of the affluent family in “Parasite.”
Kyun is reported to have taken his own life after nearly a year of investigations concerning marijuana use and some kind of link to a strip club. He was ridiculed on social media. Police were constantly on him, to the point of harassment, including leaking innuendo and gossip about Kyun to the media.
Supposedly, using any drugs, including marijuana, in Korea is very taboo. It’s also a serious crime. He got ostracized by the Korean public. The actor was found dead in a car in a park in Seoul. Police had been looking for Lee after his family reported to them that he’d written a suicide note and left home early on Wednesday.
A lot of this story is still unclear, but it’s absolutely tragic. We’re not really sure if he was guilty of anything. Here’s a good video explaining the current drama unfolding.
