Chad Stahelski Already Has Ideas Written for ‘John Wick’ 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9

October 6, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

Did we have any doubt that this would happen?

Now, before we delve in today’s update, I have to warn, just in case you haven’t seen it, about a “John Wick: Chapter 4” SPOILER ALERT.

You might already know that John Wick, our beloved assassin-killing protagonist, dies at the end. Stahelski did leave ‘Chapter 4’ with a slightly open-ended conclusion. In the very last scene of the film, Laurence Fishburne's character laughs at Wick's gravesite. Plenty of wiggle room to expand on that.

I had major doubts that Lionsgate, director Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves would just end it there. Money talks and this franchise makes a lot of dough.

Speaking with Inverse, Stahelski confirms already has ideas written down for five more John Wick sequels. Yes, chapters 5-9. How many more kills can Wick commit? How much further can you stretch this franchise out? It seems, quite a bit actually …

“I have notebooks and notebooks of shit behind me, John Wicks 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. We have ideas for days. We just don’t have the story locked. I have no interest in doing the cash grab of bringing John Wick back for something. Is he a character I like? Of course. And if I did a couple of John Wick movies, great. Keanu would do one again in a second if we had a good story. We leave that open-ended. I know that the studio would love us to say we have another.”

According to a quarterly earnings call (via Comicbook), Lionsgate President Joe Drake had confirmed that a fifth John Wick was already “in development”. So, this train is rolling again, and now it’s up to whether Reeves actually wants to sign on and make more of these movies.

The character of John Wick has essentially turned into a supernatural being where he can get shot, stabbed, mauled, to extremes, and still survive. There have been numerous moments throughout the franchise when he should have died, but he miraculously got back up and continued his kills. Now he’s buried six feet under. How’s he going to get out of this one?
