Garth Davis’ “Foe” screened for press at the New York Film Festival, and the reactions aren’t good. Scratch this one off as any kind of contender.
The sci-fi film has a 9% on Rotten Tomatoes (based on 11 reviews) and 45 on Metacritic. Ouch. Amidst the Telluride/TIFF/Venice deluge, NYFF was hungry to screen a few world premieres, but this choice seems to have backfired.
The film, set in 2065, stars Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal as a couple living out in the middle of the desert who have their calm life rattled when a mysterious stranger (Aaron Pierre) comes knocking at their door one night.
A trailer was released last month. The film is set to be released on October 6th, via Amazon. Davis broke out with his 2016 Oscar-nominated feature “Lion,” he then struck out with his follow-up, “Mary Magdelene.”
