Acccording to Variety, Ari Aster’s “Disappointment Blvd,” starring Joaquin Phoenix, reportedly has a $55M budget and is believed to be A24’s biggest production to date.
I’ve been saying this for a while now, but Aster’s film sounds like a monster of ambition. The film is said to be a black nightmarish comedy about a son, his mom and guilt. Phoenix’s character then goes on a Kafka-esque Journey after learning of the death of his mother.
We already know Aster will not be releasing “Disappointment Blvd” this year, a 2023 bow, possibly at Cannes, is highly likely for this highly anticipated movie.
If you remember, an American producer at Cannes had told me that Aster’s movie had a ridiculously long early cut (210 minutes). Here’s hoping it stays that way.
Still no distributor for "Bucking Fastard," "Alpha Gang," "The Last Photograph," "Closing Night," and "The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd." The issue seems to be quality more than a lack of willingness to buy.
