What’s Left? Part Deux.

August 3, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

The Toronto International Film Festival announced its Platform lineup this morning. A few noteworthy titles include Daniel Goldhaber‘s “How to Blow Up a Pipeline,” Frances O’Connor’s “Emily,” and Stéphane Lafleur’s “Viking.”

The San Sebastián Film Festival revealed their competition lineup yesterday. Of note, the world premieres of Christophe Honore’s “Le Lyceen,” Ulrich Seidl’s “Sparta,” and Hong Sang-soo’s “Walk Up” (the latter a European premiere) — all three rejected by Venice.

I’m getting more Telluride intel, this one concerning Scott Cooper’s “Pale Blue Eye” which will be having its world premiere over there.

This all means we can scratch off more titles from our “What’s Left?” piece, dated a few weeks ago. Pretty much every big title has been picked up, the biggest omissions so far being William Oldroyd’s “Eileen” and Ira Sachs’ “Passages.”

Maybe the rumors that Sachs was rejected by Cannes in May were indeed accurate. I can see TIFF picking this one up … Here’s the list of orphaned festival players that have yet to be picked up as of now:

“Eileen” (William Oldroyd)
“Passages” (Ira Sachs)
”Borderlands” (Eli Roth)
”Marlowe” (Neil Jordan)
“Are You There God, It's Me, Margaret” (Kelly Fremon)
”Landscape with Invisible Hand” (Corey Finley)
“You People” (Kenya Barris)
“Infinity Pool” (Brandon Cronenberg)
“The Marsh King's Daughter” (Neil Burger)
”Argyle” (Matthew Vaughn)
“The Mother” (Niki Caro)
“Havoc” (Gareth Evans)
“Monkey Man” (Dev Patel)
“Flamin Hot” (Eva Longoria)
“El Tonto” (Charlie Day)
“13: The Musical” (Tamra Davis)
“Rosaline” (Karen Maine)
“Sharper” (Benjamin Caron)
“Rheingold” (Fatih Akin)
“Tuesday” (Daina O. Pusic)
“Memory Of Water” (Saara Saarela)
