Roman Polanski’s ‘The Palace’: Mickey Rourke, John Cleese and Joaquim de Almeida Join the Cast

April 15, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

It’s being reported that Mickey Rourke has joined the cast of Roman Polanski’s “The Palace,” which has been filming at the Gstaad Palace for a month now. Rourke even confirmed it on Instagram.

Portuguese actor Joaquim de Almeida (via Cine Tendiha) and John Cleese are supposedly part of the film. There’s also word that, after much speculation, Catherine Deneuve will not be part of the cast (via Allocine).

Shooting is planned to wrap in May. If Polanski’s editing is swift enough then we might potentially see it at Venice, that is if Alberto Barbera wants the same headache he got when he premiered “An Officer and a Spy” back in 2019. Polanski ended up winning the Best Director prize that year at Venice.

Reported on 04.04.22:

“Yes, 87-year-old director Roman Polanski keeps making movies, and all the better for it. Americans have never seen the incredible “An Officer and A Spy,” Polanski’s last movie, because no American distributor would dare touch it in this the #MeToo era.

”In late January we were getting word that Polanski was set to direct another film, this one titled “The Palace,” with a story set entirely on December 31st, 1999 in a Swiss hotel. There was confirmation that production would start in March on the film.”
