‘Don’t Worry Darling’: Olivia Wilde Premieres Footage of Her Psychological Thriller [CinemaCon]

April 27, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

“Auteur” Olivia Wilde (“Booksmart”) is at CinemaCon in Vegas showcasing footage of her upcoming second directorial effort, “Don’t Worry Darling.”

Wilde compared her psychological thriller to “Inception”, “The Matrix” and “The Truman Show.” So, she’s basically setting the bar up very high for this one. Good luck with that.

Wilde said that the film lived through Florence Pugh’s head. "This performance is something you have to see to believe. You are witnessing the birth of a full-fledged movie star."

The “Don’t Worry Darling” trailer shown was said to resemble a psychedelic, and saturated ‘Stepford Wives’. It featured a menacing Chris Pine leading a collective called The Victory Project and Pugh trying to figure out what the hell is going on with her perfect life and ultra-secretive husband.

In 2020, a studio bidding war occurred to nab Wilde’s film. It was finally sold to New Line. Wilde is coming off her critically acclaimed debut “Booksmart,” a film that was somewhat overpraised by critics upon its release but generated enough buzz for her to realize this dream project.

The film is said to be a psychological thriller about a 1950s housewife whose reality begins to crack, revealing a disturbing realization that she is being suppressed. The premise itself sounds intriguing and the relevance of its #TimesUp themes will no doubt be zeroed in on upon release.
