Jordan Peele’s ‘Nope’ is Most Likely Not a Token “Alien Invasion” Movie

February 13, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

Jordan Peele has become a filmmaker that I genuinely get excited about with each consequent movie he releases. Peele stormed into the scene in early 2017, alongside prominent genre auteurs such as Robert Eggers, Ari Aster, and Jeremy Saulnier. Peele’s imprint can be felt in everything he does, if that’s not the sign of an auteur then I don’t know what is.

The latest Peele joint, this one titled “Nope,” Looks like an alien invasion movie, you can even see one in the trailer or at least that’s what I thought it was. However, knowing Peele, thats too obvious. I imagine there’s still gonna be some kind of twist that reveals this is more than just a token alien invasion narrative.

Get Out = GO
Us = Underground Society or United States
NOPE= Not Of Planet Earth

What I did notice was, Christopher Nolan regular, Hoyte Van Hoytema’s immersive photography. “Nope” seems to have a lot of nighttime scenes and Van Hoytema doesn’t make the images look too dark, they are brightly lit, as if a glorious full moon shadows over the protagonists.

Even after this trailer drop, the plot for “Nope” is still not known, and all the better for it.
