RIP Angelo Badalamenti

December 12, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

This is crushing news. Maestro composer Angelo Badalmenti has passed away at the age of 85.

Badalmenti was a master of his craft, having composed some of the most iconic cinematic scores. He was David Lynch’s go-to musician, having been behind the scores of “Mulholland Drive,” “Twin Peaks,” “Blue Velvet,” “Wild at Heart,” “Lost Highway” and “The Straight Story.”

His style was at making dark, dreamy and atmospheric music. And yet, there was also this strange melancholy that would seep through his compositions. There was nobody else like him. Lynch’s films would feel very different without Badalmenti’s music being played behind them.

Here’s a great video of Badalmenti explaining how he and Lynch created Laura Palmer’s Theme for “Twin Peaks.”

Badalamenti is one of too many “Twin Peaks“ alumns who have passed away in 2022. Actor Al Strobel, Lenny Von Dohlen, Kenneth Welsh, and singer Julee Cruise also died this year.
