Paul Schrader’s ‘Master Gardener’ Set For March 30th, 2023 via Magnolia

November 3, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

Mucho thanks to Eliza Davis who spoke to Paul Schrader and got confirmation that “Master Gardener” will be released on March 30th, 2023. Magnolia Pictures bought Schrader’s latest yesterday morning and will be distributing the film in the US.

Reviews for “Master Gardener” haven’t been as rousing as those that met “The Card Counter” or “First Reformed,” but no serious cinephile would dare miss this latest cinematic provocation from Schrader. One thing I’ve notice from this trilogy of Bresson-inspired films is that all three leads not only write in a diary, but they also have the same short gel-brushed to the side haircut.

This news made me want to go through Schrader’s filmography to see what have been the highlights of his 5-decade filmmaking career, I’m not counting his incredible scripts for “Taxi Driver,” “Rolling Thunder,” “Raging Bull,” “The Last Temptation of Christ” and “Bringing Out the Dead.”

In no particular order, the 5 greatest directorial achievements of Schrader’s career: “Blue Collar,” “Mishima,” “Affliction,” “Auto Focus,” and “First Reformed.”
