I’ve been getting a lot of emails about this topic, so I’ll elaborate further.
If you’ve been reading this column then you already know about a possible secret screening occurring at the New York Film Festival this year. Past “surprise” films at NYFF have included the world premieres of “Hugo,” “Lincoln,” but also lesser-profiled films such as TIFF also-rans “While We’re Young,” and “Mid-90s.”
This year’s “secret screening” will be occurring at NYFF during the second week of October aka during “Encore Weekend.” It will take place far away from the large-scaled Alice Tully Hall and in the more intimate Walter Reads setting. Meaning, if it’s a high-profile World Premiere then good luck finding a ticket.
I’m not trying to hype this screening up too much; It could very well be either “Licorice Pizza,” “West Side Story,”“Nightmare Alley,” or we could find ourselves sitting through, gulp, “The Humans.”
The mystery surrounding Telluride’s secret A24 screening now appears to have been solved. Did anybody guess Nathan Fielder and Elizabeth Holmes?
