Meryl Streep Set to Star Alongside Joaquin Phoenix in Ari Aster's ‘Disappointment Blvd'

I’m hearing Meryl Streep has joined Joaquin Phoenix and will be part of the Montreal-set shoot of Ari Aster’s upcoming Disappointment Boulevard,” that’s according to DeuxMoi and a source from MTL Production that, more or less, confirmed this rumor to be true.

Aster will start filming “Disappointment Boulevard” in Montreal on June 28th. The director of “Midsommar” and “Hereditary” will be re-teaming with A24 for this new project. Phoenix and Streep are set to star in the mysterious film which originally went by the title of “Beau is Afraid.”

In 2011, Aster directed a short film titled “Beau.” Described as a “surrealist horror film set in an alternate present,” Phoenix’s character would play an “extremely anxious but pleasant-looking man who has a fraught relationship with his overbearing mother and never knew his father.” When his mother dies, he makes a journey home that involves some wild supernatural threats.

No release date has yet to be announced for “Disappointment Boulevard,” but a 2022 release feels inevitable for this one. Stay tuned …
