Traders (TV Series) reviewed

March 24, 2021 John Torre

The TV show Traders is about Toronto-based investment house Gardner/Ross, "Traders" that examines the private lives and loves of investment bankers whose high-risk decisions and creation of alliances can have dangerous international consequences. It is a Canadian television drama that was broadcasting on the global television network from 1996-2000. It is centered around the employees of Gardner Ross which is an investment bank.

Storyline

Gardner Ross is a Canadian investment bank that faces big competition from other banks on the global marketplace. The story begins when the initial public offering is gone missing and senior partner Cedric Ross is jailed after that. He fears that his partner Adam Cunningham will take advantage of his absence to agree to a friendly takeover by a larger bank, this is why he calls on his only child, Sally, to take care of the bank while he is absent. Meanwhile, hotshot trader Jack Larkin is looking to break into investment banking and approaches Adam, who agrees to allow Larkin to join the firm if he can land another IPO. Jack undercuts a rival bank and wins the IPO, but as the investment syndicate falls through, Gardner Ross finds itself responsible for most of the underwriting of the issue, and if the sale goes poorly, faces the loss of all of its investment capital. Luckily, head trader Marty Stephens saves the day by making a large profit for the bank selling the issue into a cool market.

Three characters have different goals and agendas. Sally wishes both to keep the bank independent, Adam wants to steer a safe course that will bring consistent but relatively low returns on capital, Jack seeks outgrowth at any cost seeking bigger and bigger deals, culminating in a $1 billion financing of a harbor project. Meanwhile, Marty sees the plans of the investment bankers stealing capital away from his consistently profitable trading while putting him under pressure to bring more capital into the bank.

The bank is once again thrown into crisis when Sally is diagnosed with cancer and has to undergo an operation and chemotherapy to keep it under control. As usual, she has to compete with Adam for managerial control and ownership of the bank during this time. After this major crisis, most of the rest of the series concentrates on the relationship between the character's personal lives and their work at the bank.

The TV show is a review by the public positively and like because of the great actors and suspenseful plots which carry on from episode to episode. Rick Roberts and David Hewlett are hilarious together- David Hewlett himself is such an underrated actor.  It is often considered by the public to be among the best movies about Forex trading which shows the insight of the foreign exchange system generally and gives the specific knowledge. Viewers that this award-winning drama has everything that a person could want. Love, betrayal, money, sex, humor, great acting, everything! Bruce Grey as awesome as Adam Cunningham, the member of the Old Guard on Bay Street, and Sonia Smits is superb as Sally Ross, the scholar turned broker. Great writing makes the show fresh and interesting. It's only down point is that some of the terms used on the show are a bit too technical.

Conclusion

Finally, to sum up, the tv show was one of the best and most viewed at that time as it was giving a specific insight into the financial market, trading, and exchanges that were not that familiar to the public back then and could not google about it either. This complex process and difficulty to understand was shown to the audience in a way that was good to watch and full of humor that most caught the attention of people. Even though it is difficult to find the show online, a lot of people are still trying to buy the CD or find other ways because it is highly recommended in its genre.
