‘Dunkirk’ and ‘Interstellar’ DP Hoyte Van Hoytema is Shooting Jordan Peele’s ‘Nope’

November 24, 2021 Jordan Ruimy

We here love our cinematographers. They are an integral part of how a film looks and feels. Truly great cinematographers are able to not only assist in a director’s artistic vision but also incorporate their own unique style in the composition of the finished product.

Now, here comes the surprising news that Oscar Nominated DP Hoyte Van Hoytema (“Dunkirk”, “Her”, “Interstellar”) is shooting Jordan Peele's new film, "Nope." Our source comes from Kodak’s new ad, listing DPs who are currently shooting their projects on film

In my 12 Best Working Cinematographers piece, I listed Van Hoytema as the 11th best working cinematographer today. The news that he’s teaming up with the always-exciting Peele is a cause for excitement. I wrote:

“Hoyte van Hoytema works both the epic and the intimate, placing light sources outside the primary setting and downplaying the light’s importance. There’s subtlety to his colours and lack of overexposure. The colours are muted, but gorgeous.”

Peele’s “Nope” is set for a July 2022 release.
