Razzie Awards: ‘Cats,' ‘Rambo: Last Blood,' ‘Madea Family Funeral' Lead With 8 Noms Each

February 8, 2020 Jordan Ruimy

The Razzies are intended to call out the worst cinematic endeavors of the past year, it's all in good fun, especially since, and people forget this, the Razzies’ recognition for this nadirs-of-the-cinematic-world actually tends to boost up their home video sales. I mean, who wouldn't want to see John Travolta hamming it up as mobster John Gotti?

Hey, I'm all for the Razzies, after all they've put to shame some of the worst movie ever made over these last three decades, then again, remember when they nominated "The Shining" as Worst Picture back in 1980? Or even "mother!" in 2017, although the latter is not in the same league as Kubrick's classic, a bold, visionary, yes flawed, film such as Darren Aronofsky's does not deserve to be nominated for anything Razzie, let alone Jennifer Lawrence's batshit crazy and brave performance.

With all that being said, I have no complaints this year. “Cats” was so bad it is now destined to become a cult classic, “The Fanatic” was only saved by a gonzo performance courtesy of John Travolta (glad he didn’t get a worst actor nom), “Rambo: Last Blood” was a soulless jaunt into B-movie violence, “A Madea Family Funeral” was already doomed the minute it got announced and “The Haunting of Sharon Tate” tried to take advantage of a real-life murdered actress’ story in a tasteless and cheap home invasion movie.
