Richard Linklater To Spend Next 20 Years Shooting Movie Musical Starring Beanie Feldstein

August 29, 2019 Theo Fisher

Collider reported earlier today that Richard Linklater has lined up his most ambitious project yet. In fact, this maybe the most ambitious project ever. No stranger to ambition, Linklater famously filmed his critical masterpiece ‘Boyhood’ over 12 years. However, even that was not enough to land him best director or best picture Oscar win. So, what could he possibly do to outdo one of the rare films in history that sits with a 100 score on Metacritic.

It is rumoured that Linklater will now begin to adapt the Steven Sondheim musical, ‘Merrily We Roll Along’, the story of a Broadway composer whose life we learn about thanks to flashbacks. And with rising ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ star Ben Platt (soon to be seen in Netflix’s ‘The Politician’) and the undoubtedly already arrived Beanie Feldstein (‘Lady Bird’ ‘Booksmart’ set to star, what more could you ask for.

‘Great’ I hear you say, a musical from Linklater, starring two of Hollywood’s rising stars, where and when can I purchase my ticket? Well, here is the news. Linklater’s newest project will be shot at various points over the next twenty years. Cue all the inspired think pieces of ‘all that will happen before this film is released’.

Ambitious, creative, and inspired are three of the words best used to describe the man that has brought us some of the greatest coming of age movies ever produced, from ‘Dazed and Confused’ to “Everybody Wants Some’, and with his recent offerings not hitting the heights many would expect, those who get to see this film, when its released from its time-capsule, will be very lucky indeed.

I look forward to its 2040 release, probably slotted somewhere between the 57th Movie in the MCU, and Fast and Furious 19, in which Hobbs and Shaw find their retirement home invaded by cyber-genetically enhanced villains
