Terrence Malick Already Shooting Next Movie, Titled ‘The Last Planet’; Will Be About Jesus Christ

June 7, 2019 Jordan Ruimy

Terrence Malick premiered his World War II era drama, “A Hidden Life” at Cannes Film Festival, after three years of production. I thought it was a messy return to narrative storytelling for the legendary writer-director. Regardless, the film was picked up by Fox Searchlight and will be released later this fall for Oscar contention.

However, here comes huge news if you’re a Malick aficionado: he’s already begun shooting his next movie in Rome. Various Italian media are reporting that Malick’s next movie will be called “The Last Planet” and will reportedly convey passages “in the life of Christ” through representing evangelical parables.

The small City of Anzio, near Rome, is also very aware that Malick is shooting on location there, so much so that even its mayor Candido De Angelis says the town is “honored to have been chosen by a director and contemporary artist of the international depth of Terrence Malick.” [via The Film Stage]
