Cannes 2019: Jim Jarmusch's "The Dead Don't Die" Will Be Released in June. Hmm ...

March 28, 2019 Jordan Ruimy

I have had a hit and miss vibe with Jim Jarmusch for a few decades now, but I do have to say I absolutely adore “Stranger Than Paradise,” “Down By Law,” Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai,” “Broken Flowers” and “Paterson.” Those are incredible movies. (I’m still iffy about “Dead Man” but a rewatch is in order)

Rumors were gathering up with swift momentum that Jarmusch was putting the finishing touches on his upcoming zombie film, “The Dead Don’t Die” and that it would have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May — there were also rumors that the editing process might make the film miss the deadline to appear at the festival. So, I kept asking around and most people were telling me that the plan was always Cannes.

The Cannes lineup won’t be revealed until April 18th, but Focus Features and has confirmed a June release date for Jarmusch’s film. Cannes it is. The cast includes Bill Murray, Iggy Pop, RZA, Tom Waits, Adam Driver, Tilda Swinton, Chloë Sevigny, Steve Buscemi, Danny Glover, Caleb Landry Jones, Rosie Perez, Sara Driver, Selena Gomez, and Carol Kane.

Murray said about the film last year, “It’s a zombie movie. Jim Jarmusch has written a zombie script that’s so hilarious and it has a cast of great actors…”

Chloë Sevigny was interviewed by Collider, the topic of Jim Jarmusch’s next movie, “The Dead Don’t Die,” came into the conversation and, suffice to say, her description of it has us all very excited. The actress revealed that the film would center around an environmental catastrophe that sets off the zombie outbreak and that the film will lean more towards comedy that drama.

Jarmusch’s film will arrive in theaters on June 14.
