This looks visually stunning, but what else do you expect from Luc Besson?
Besson directed "Nikita," "Leon," and "The Fifth Element" back to back to back between 1990-1997. Fine. Those three films alone have allowed him to have enough creative freedom to direct whatever he wanted after those. Problem is the ensuing films weren't very good ("The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc," "Angel-A," "Arthur and the Invisibles," "The Family). He made somewhat of a comeback in 2014 with the underrated "Lucy," so I am cautiously optimistic this new film "Valerian" might turn out OK, but not holding my breath.
This does have an impressive cast: Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, Rihanna, Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke.
“Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets” opens on July 21st.
As expected, Snyder's latest is being torn apart by TIFF attendees. No mercy given. The film, which had its world premiere this evening, is being called by some one of the worst movies to ever premiere at the festival.
