I saw George Clooney’s “The Boys in the Boat” a few weeks ago via screener link, and it doesn’t really work. It’s very conventional. One might easily use the word “vanilla” to describe this film and you’d get a good sense of its overall vibe.

The holiday weeks may boost it up, but for now it’s looking at a $30-35 million weekend. “Wonka” is the second widest release of the year, after “Barbie,” as it’s set to open in over 4,000 theaters. The family friendly film will play through New Year’s to decent legs, no doubt.
