John Wayne and Kirk Douglas’ never-before-seen telegrams as Wayne was dying on his deathbed

Mark Cuban’s HDNET MOVIES hosted a special “Western Icons” television event in honor of John Wayne's birthday. Wayne would have been 111 on May 26th. John’s son, Ethan, hosted the special, he shared a series of exchanges John had with co-star and industry friend Kirk Douglas via telegram near the end of his life.

“When my father was in the hospital and dying of cancer, he exchanged some letters with Kirk Douglas. As a joke, he wrote that he had an extra operation to add a cleft to his chin so he could be like Kirk.”
