Comedian Chris Rock has been tapped by Universal Pictures to direct the “definitive cinematic biopic” about the life of Martin Luther King Jr.

Variety’s Clayton Davis has his fair share of detractors, but I agree with his assessment that Ryan Gosling could potentially win the Best Supporting acting Oscar for “Barbie.”

It’s been six years since Daniel Day-Lewis announced his second retirement from acting. Some were skeptical that he would actually stop acting, but so far, he’s stayed true to his word.

An early cut of the film had it at around 3 hours 15 minutes — no word yet on what the final runtime will be.

You might be interested to know that producers Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks’ much-delayed Apple TV+ series “Master of the Air” will debut its the first two episodes in January, followed by weekly installments until March 15.

“The Exorcist: Believer” is tracking to open to $30M+ domestically. The film cost $30M to make, but Universal bought the rights to make the trilogy for $400M.

Hirokazu Kore-eda’s “Monster” has a trailer. It’s also been given a release date — November 22nd in Los Angeles on December 1st in New York. No word yet on a wider expansion.

Pedro Almodóvar will be shooting his first full-length English-language feature next March. The film, set in New York City, is rumored to be about three female friends.

Anderson’s four short films, all based on Roald Dahl stories, are now available to stream on Netflix.

Many were surprised by France’s selection of Trần Anh Hùng’s “The Taste of Things” as their Oscar selection for Best International Film. Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall” was right there. Regardless, Hùng’s film now has a trailer, via IFC.

”Rumours” has been granted a SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement allowing the production, which isn’t associated with the AMPTP, to proceed.

It’s going to be damn-near impossible for Miller’s “Furiosa” to be as jaw-dropping as “Fury Road,” but I’m optimistic about this prequel to the 2015 action classic.

Last week, I attended a distributor screening for “The Exorcist: Believer” and this movie just falls FLAT. Absolutely nothing works. It’s all just recycled ideas.

Another “Blade” rewrite has now been called by Marvel boss Kevin Feige, this one is said to be a total revamp of the last draft. I’m not sure what’s going on with this project, but Feige doesn’t seem too impressed by what he’s seen so far.

I love how we have a new David Cronenberg film to look forward to next year. It’s called “The Shrouds.”
