According to Production Weekly, Constance Wu and Henry Golding will be back for ‘Crazy Rich Asians 2,’ a sequel to the mega-successful and well-reviewed 2018 romcom ‘Crazy Rich Asians.’
Filming on the project will take place in Malaysia and Singapore next year. I presume Michelle Yeoh and Awkwafina will also take part. Jon M. Chu is back in the director’s chair for the sequel. Amy Wang will pen the screenplay which is an adaptation of Kevin Kwan’s ‘China Rich Girlfriend,’ the second book in the trilogy.
I wasn’t a fan of the 2018 film, it used very tiresome romcom tropes, and tried to blemish them with inclusive casting. It didn’t work for me. However, the film did make a lot of money, grossing $174 million domestically, and seems to be well-liked by the general public.
“Crazy Rich Asians” follows a native New Yorker (played by Wu) as she accompanies her longtime boyfriend (Golding) in Singapore for his best friend’s wedding and the chance to meet his unorthodox and very rich family, including his disapproving mom (Yeoh).
