Pedro Almodóvar to Direct Cate Blanchett in Adaptation of ‘A Manual for Cleaning Women’

October 2, 2021 Jordan Ruimy

In a recent podcast appearance, Agustín Almodóvar, film producer and younger brother of Pedro Almodóvar, confirmed that his famous sibling was set to direct an adaptation of “A Manual for Cleaning Women” starring Cate Blanchett:

“We continue to work on it. In fact, Pedro has already finished the adaptation because ‘Manual’ is a collection of stories and Pedro has managed to adapt five of those stories and turn them into a linear story. I think that was the first challenge of the novel, to give unity and create a single character. That is already done. There is also an actress very committed to the project, Cate Blanchett.”

The producer also mentions that this would be Pedro Almodóvar‘s first English feature-length film — during the pandemic he teamed up with Tilda Swindon for a short film titled “The Human Voice.”

Blanchett is going to be very busy these next few years as she as already booked new films with such esteemed directors as Todd Field, James Gray, Alfonso Cuaron, Francis Ford Coppola and now the great Almodóvar.
