Minnesota Professor: God Didn't Have Virgin Mary's Consent to Impregnate Her

How far have we sunk? On a slow news day I give you exhibit A: An associate professor at Minnesota State University has sparked major backlash on social media after claiming that the Virgin Mary didn’t give consent to conceiving Jesus.

Eric Sprankle is an associate professor of psychology and a certified sex therapist, so this is no Joe-popcorn. Sprankle tweeted on Monday, from his verified Twitter account,  that the virgin birth story is about “an all-knowing, all-powerful deity impregnating a human teen.” He added that there is no definition of consent that would include that scenario,” he wrote

Sprankel went on to add that God's behavior “an unethical abuse of power at best and grossly predatory at worst.” He later replied to an angry tweeter by saying The biblical god regularly punished disobedience. The power difference (deity vs mortal) and the potential for violence for saying ‘no’ negates her ‘yes.’
