Venice: "Suspiria," "Roma," "Beautiful Boy," and Others Set to Premeire; No Barry Jenkins.

Variety's Nick Vivarelli is reporting on several sure-things for next week's announcement of the Venice Film Festival.

Luca Guadagnino’sSuspiria,
Damien Chazelle’sFirst Man
Alfonso Cuaron's Roma,”
Paul Greengrass’ “Norway"
Felix Van Groeningen's Beautiful Boy”
Bradley Cooper'sA Star is Born
Jacques Audiard’s “The Sisters Brothers,”
Yorgos Lanthimos’ “The Favorite

However, Vivarelli also mentions that Joel Edgerton’sBoy Erased” and Barry Jenkins’ “If Beale Street Could Talk” are both not going to be competing at this year’s festival. I'm more interested in Beale, because that seems to be what most cinephiles are curious about. I'm now thinking that Telluride will have “If Beale Street Could Talk” and that the film might take the risk of snubbing TIFF and Venice. Probably appear NYFF soon afterward? Who knows.

The Venice Film Festival begins August 29. The actual full lineup will officially be announced next week.
