"The Miseducation of Cameron Post" Was Underserving of Sundance Grand Jury prize

Desiree Akhavan "The Miseducation of Cameron Post" unfairly won the Sundance Grand Jury Prize this past January. And, for once, it actually was a very strong competition. Bo Burnham's "Eighth Grade" (look for an interview I conducted him this week) was the film I thought would snag the prize, alas, the jury, which included Ava Duvernay and Octavia Spencer went for a mostly obvious film which not much new to say, except, hey, homophobia exists and gay conversion therapy is real!

“The Miseducation of Cameron Post” is based on the novel of the same name by Emily M. Danforth and stars Chloe Moretz as Cameron, a lesbian teenager sent to gay conversion therapy camp. Moretz is fine in the role, but the movie never really takes off. The agenda of the movie does come with good intentions, but the characters are underdeveloped and feel like caricatures.

I didn't even bother reviewing it, but eventually. will have to.
