"Red Sparrow" is the most underrated wide release so far this year

The most under-appreciated studio movie of the year so far has to be Francis Lawrence's "Red Sparrow." An R-rated, old-school epic that was refreshing to behold. Movies like this just don't get made by the big studios anymore. You know, smart, adult-oriented, and expertly realized filmmaking. Kudos to Jo Willems for the excellent cinematography, which evoked the snowy mountainous breeze of Freddie Young's work in "Doctor Zhivago," there are some penetratingly absorbing frames here. Jennifer Lawrence is also excellent, I mean when is she not? I would have trimmed down the last 20 or so minutes, but I'd give "Red Sparrow" a shot.
