Paramount was seeking a female filmmaker to direct Star Trek 4. The franchise, based on Gene Roddenberry's 1960s television series, has never had any of its movies directed by a woman, until today.

THR is reporting that Paramount was asked by J.J. Abrams to hire S.J. Clarkson, who directed the pilot for Netflix’s Marvel series "Jessica Jones." Clarkson  is currently in talks to helm the film, which should have most of its stars returning, including Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto.

Star Trek 4 was penned by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. However, Paramount are also reporting that a whole separate Star Trek movie from Quentin Tarantino is also being prepped and in the works. Don't look for QT's standalone "Trek" movie to be shooting before next year, since the venerable writer-director is already in full-on production for his upcoming Brad Pitt- Leonardo DiCaprio film "Once Upon A Time in Hollywood."
