FRAILTY, is a sleeper classic directed by Bill Paxton that deserved a larger audience

As we mourn the loss of a great character actor, I highly recommend you take a look at "Frailty," maybe the crowning achievement of Bill Paxton's career. Paxton turned in a great performance in his directorial debut (he should have directed many more movies). Like all the great horror of classic cinema "Frailty" turns into a great tragedy, as a family tears itelf apart trying to perform one last dying mission for divinity. Clearly influenced by Hitchcock, Paxton directed the character drama with some of the tensest flair I have witnessed in any modern horror movie.

While you watch the movie make sure to catch that incredible shot when they first find the axe in the barn, with the God rays hitting the axe. Breathtaking. This is one of the most underrated movies of the last 20 years and one of the few good movies Matthew McConaughey made during his rom-com days. I don't get easily shocked, but "Frailty" has moments of shocking intensity that only great cinema can deliver. It would be better to not know anything and go cold turkey into movie. Dim the lights, set no distractions around you and enjoy.

Bill Paxton will be missed, he was still doing great work in recent years, most notably in Nightcrawler and Edge of Tomorrow.
