Underwhelming War-Drama "The Yellow Birds" Finally Being released

“The Yellow Birds” will be officially released on DirecTV May 17, and in theaters June 15th.
And so, with all that being said, “The Yellow Birds” stars Alden Ehrenreich, and Tye Sheridan and comes from Alexandre Moors, who previously made the better than average Blue Caprice” back in 2014, an impressive debut on the 2002 D.C. sniper attackers.
I saw "The Yellow Birds" at Sundance 2016, a cliche-ridden Iraqi war drama that uses Rashomon-style flashbacks to get to the bottom of a soldier's mysterious death in battle. For some reason, I didn't even remember Jennifer Aniston was in it until I saw this trailer, but, yes, she has a supporting role playing the mother of the deceased young soldier. It's the same story we've seen many times before, the film uses plenty of cliches regarding post-war disillusionment, trauma etc. I really wanted to like this movie, but what a letdown. Especially with such top-notch actors as Sheridan and, yes, even Ehrenreich, who are both severely miscast here.
