Gal Gadot Auditioned for the role of Furiosa in "Mad Max: Fury Road"

You can't deny the sheer impact of "Mad Max: Fury Road." Director George Miller's Fourth installment of the film franchise was proof that not all blockbusters should be greeted with an indifferent shrug. If anything, this brutal action film was even more intense and exciting than its predecessors. With its nihilistic outlook on human nature and a nasty, in-your-face style, this was Miller's triumph through and through. "Fury Road" has become so etched in our memory as a classic that we just can't imagine any other actors playing the main or secondary roles.

Prime among them is Furiosa, the solider that betrays Immortan Joe and tries to free the Five Wives. Raucously played by Charlize Theron it might just be the role she was born to play. However, Theron did have stiff competition before she finally landed the role, as none other than Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot, auditioned for it, but to no avail.

Talking to THR, the Israeli-born actress looked back on her career before this year's megastardom and said that her audtions never went anywhere because she just wasn't that well known "I had so many almosts for big, great things, but I was never big enough of a name," she then cites that she was in the running for Furiosa, adding "It was always me and 'the big name.'"

It is well-known that right before "Wonder Woman" happened Gadot was contemplating leaving the industry for good and never coming back. A life in Israel was in the works, but then Patty Jenkins, who herself had reservations about Gadot in the lead role, was finally won over when they met in person and, as they say, the rest is for the history books. Sometimes it's just meant to happen. Gad was perfect as Wonder Woman, ditto Theron as Furiosa.
